The 49er one-design male double-handed Olympic skiff has transformed dinghy racing by offering performance, excitement and spectacle. The athletes who compete in this category are very prepared to face a physical and mental load of the highest level. The hull designed by Julian Bethwaite is light and fast, but also very unstable.
The 49er adopted a new sails plan and an all-carbon mast in 2008 that has allowed the boat to stay in line with technological innovations in materials. A second mast and sail update was introduced in 2021. Nautivela is the 49er’s distributor in Southern Europe.
